Education |
In Sweden you have several option to choose from when taking your driving licence. |
|
|
Below you can study the various options in more detail and get some valuable advice on the
way to obtaining your driving licence. |
|
|
At a driving school.. |
Education at a driving school |
|
|
If you choose a driving school you have the right to demand a professional driver education.
At a driving school you should get comprehensive training both where theory and practice is
concerned.
After you have made your choice you visit the driving school and ask them to prepare an
education plan for you, naturally in close consultation with you, so that your wishes can be
included as far as possible. However, first you have take a test lesson so that the driving
instructor can assess your knowledge and skills.
The education program provided by the driving school of your choice should include all
important steps so that you can feel safe and secure. Apart from training in urban and rural
traffic you will receive training in EcoDriving. During the "dark" season you will
practice "driving in darkness" learning about the special risks this entails.
If you take your driving licence during the summer months you will probably have the
opportunity to return to the driving shool after taking your licence so that you can practice
this important step as well. |

At a driving school combained with privite learner driving.. |
Education at a driving school combined with private learner driving
You can also ask the driving school to prepare and education program that includes private
repetitive training to a varying degree (adapted your needs). In this case it is important that
your private instructor follows the education program you and the driving school have agreed on.
In other words that you practice the elements at home which you have agreed with your driving
instructor at a particular stage in the education. |
|
|
Private learner driving only.. |
Private learner driving without going to a driving school
This option entails that you yourself, together with your instructor, take care of the whole education process
including booking your theoretical and practical driving test at the SRA,(Swedish Transport Administration).
Experience shows that private learner drivers although they have passed the theoretical test have sufficient
theoretical knowledge. Most probably this also means that they have a lower degree of risk awareness, which
results in that they are less well equipped when it comes to handling hazardous situations in the traffic. |
|
|
Some good advice.. |
Some good advice where private learner driving is concerned |
|
|
Where the two options "Education at a driving school combined with private learner
driving" and " Private learner driving" are concerned you need to have a private
instructor.
If you choose private learner driving, your private instructor and yourself must attend an
"instructors' course" (handledarkurs) at a driving school, educational association,
private company or non-profit organisation. (Please note that not all driving schools provide
this kind of course).
During this course you will receive advice and tips on how to plan your training. Furthermore
you will receive some advice on problems that might arise during training - for example how to
handle conflicts. |
|
|
Introductory course.. |
Introductory course for private learner driving instructors
This compulsory introductory course for private instructors was introduced on 1st
January 2006. The Swedish Road Administration stipulated the syllabus for the introductory course
and is the authority which assesses who is qualified to hold the course.
To be approved as private instructor for private learner driving your private instructor needs to
attend the course together with you. It can be a course at a traffic school, educational association,
private company or non-profit organisation under the supervision of the STA.
One piece of good advice in this connection is to pay the fee without delay. This will speed up
the processing of the application at the Country Administration. Find out what the postal giro
account of your country administration is.
A certificate is issued after the course which should be attached to the application for approval
as private instructor which is sent to the county administration.
A certificate is valid for five years and is only valid for the learner driver with whom the private
instructor has attended the course. |

Risk Education for passenger car and light truck.. |
Risk Education for passenger car and light truck is an extended compulsory theoretical
risk education which came into force 2009-04-01. It's called risk education part 1.
This part of the risk education aims to give you knowledge and understanding of how alcohol,
drugs and fatigue, and other behaviors and factors may affect your driving ability. |

The purpose of a risk education.. |
During training, you will participate in discussions about what the consequences might be, what increases
the risks and how to avoid them.
The earlier so-called skid-pan training is now called risk education part 2. The purpose of this element
of risk education is that you should learn how for example to avoid getting into difficult situations and
help you understand how for example speed affects your ability to cope with the difficulties that may arise. |

Risk Education for motorcycles.. |
Risk Education for motorcycle for ratings of A1 light motorcycle and A - (light and heavy
motorcycles).
A heavy motorcycle came into force 2009-09-01.
The training focuses on the special circumstances pertaining to motorcycle driving and is divided
into two parts.
Part 1 addresses the dangers of drinking alcohol, other drugs, fatigue and behavior that increase
risk.
Part 2 is a more practical education and specifically focuses on the significance of speed, safety
and driving under specific conditions. |

Will we achieve the Zero-vision goal? |
If we are to achieve zero-vision goals - "no deaths or serious injuries on the road"
then the above steps go some of the way but unfortunately they are not sufficient.
In order to reduce risk on our roads the driving training must be improved and requirements must
be increased if we want to save lives. The qualitative education efforts and the compulsory aspects
of driver training must also bereviewed. |

How can you contribute to safer traffic society? |
|
|
In the document - "Swedish road safety and the traffic safe society, Investigation
and analysis of possible measures" you will find a description of t possibilities there are
to improve the driver education and reduce the traffic's influence on environment as well as how
we can come closer to "Vision Zero". |
